Short Description of My Current Work
Currently semi-retired and doing volunteer work for my former school district writing grants and helping to establish programs. I consult on other projects -- with the KPIRC in KS, market research for an Illinois university reopening a campus in northwestern WI, grant-related work for CESAs in WI, and grant writing for my local community's centennial celebration to support restoration of our depot and creation of a history museum, and involving children/youth in the development of a historical mural.

    Professional History
I directed and co-directed several service-learning national and state projects while I worked with RMC Research in Denver, CO. I was a co-author on a book about S-L that linked federal programs and S-L and wrote several chapters in an edited manual on support for S-L. I worked with a nationally recognized charter school for at-risk high school youth in Kansas for nearly 10 years doing professional development for teachers, writing a variety of S-L grants, and worked with students attending the school. I have conducted research and published articles concerning the impact of service-learning on students at this school. I included S-L as a strategy in a federally funded program I directed for five years in KS. Now that I have moved back to Wisconsin, I am working with my school district to get them involved again in S-L.

    Professional Expertise/ Passions
Primary areas of expertise include grant writing -- and specifically taking an idea and making it a reality through securing funding and then overseeing implementation to ensure fidelity to the conceptualized model. My other areas of interest include authentic teaching and learning, service-learning, parent involvement under ESEA, Title I and NCLB. I have many years of experience in teacher professional development, mentor teacher training, and teaching at the IHE level.

What I'm Most Excited About in My Current Work
The variety of the work I'm currently doing and the challenge involved with all of the various projects in which I am involved. I am intrigued with all the possibilities that keep presenting themselves to me through all the networking that I'm doing such as being asked to be on various county- and state-wide Boards of Directors for several 501 c(3)'s -- the Wisconsin Community Education Association and the Rusk County Community Foundation. I love the grant writing I'm doing for the Flambeau School District and the projects in which I will be involved as a result of winning several successful grants that include service-learning (working with staff and students in the school), and the AODA grant and working with a cadre of students training them to become youth research interns in conjunction with that program. I enjoy the grant-writing work I'm doing for my local community to help with their fund-raising efforts for our upcoming centennial celebration. I love the flexibility and the ability to get involved in numerous projects and to give back to my community and my school district!
